Blueprint for Health Equity-Upper Hudson Valley

The Blueprint for Health Equity is an extraordinary opportunity for professionals in the fields of behavioral health, social services, government, law enforcement, education, healthcare, media, religious organizations, and others, to take a fresh look at the work of their organizations through the eyes of the people they serve. This FREE workshop explores the social determinants of health through a health equity lens.

The day begins with a presentation from Dr. Kenya Beard, who will further explore the social determinants of health, racial equity, and unconscious bias. Dr. Beard will address how to put what you learn into action, and help clients and communities achieve health equity.

The presentation is followed by the Community Action Poverty Simulation (CAPS), led by Westchester Community Opportunity Program, Inc. (WestCOP). This activity gives participants the unique opportunity to experience the day to day challenges of living in poverty.

The day concludes with a presentation from Dr. Martine Hackett, who will address the central question of how poverty and structural racism affect the ability of individuals, families, and communities to achieve health equity. Dr. Hackett will discuss the structural causes of poverty; explore the intersection of structural racism and poverty as social determinants of health; and discuss racial health disparities in suburban areas.

Attend as an individual or bring a team from your organization. Breakfast and lunch will be provided!
