12th Annual Hudson Valley World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Conference 2020

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

EverCare at Home is proud to announce that the 12th Annual Hudson Valley World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Conference will take place on Friday, June 12th, 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., at Anthony’s Pier 9 (2975 Route 9W, New Windsor, N.Y.). The conference is being organized by EverCare at Home Certified Home Health Agency and the World Elder Abuse Awareness Committee, in cooperation with Office for Aging, Adult Protective Services, and County Government of Dutchess and Orange counties.

The conference is free and open to the entire Hudson Valley Region.

As our elderly population increases, elder abuse and other crimes against older persons are also on the rise. It is critical to know how to recognize elder abuse, and how to get help if you are a victim or if you suspect someone you know is being abused. A recent study of elder abuse prevalence in New York State found that 76 out of every 1,000 older New Yorkers are victims of elder abuse each year. The reported incidence rate is nearly 24 times greater than the number of referred cases. This suggests that many elders are not seeking, or getting the assistance they need.

Last year’s conference was a great success, with over 450 attendees registered. This year we have a much larger venue, and expect to attract as many as 800 attendees, some who are predicted to travel from as far south as New York City and as far north as Albany.

The 2020 conference presenters will consist of local community members, elected offi cials, and New York State professionals committed to elder justice, including:
