Foundations of Motivational Interviewing (MI)
Length of Training: Six and half (6.5) hours
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a collaborative conversation style to strengthen a person’s own motivation and commitment to change. It is designed to strengthen personal motivation for and commitment to a specific goal by eliciting and exploring the person’s own reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion.
By the end of this training, the learner will:
- Describe MI and the four processes
- Discuss Spirit of MI
- Understand MI core skills (OARS)
- Recognize change talk and how to respond to change talk
- Understand how to deal with resistance
- Understand how to apply “Ask-tell-ask” during patient interactions
